WHEN YOU FORGET YOUR SIN

Sometimes, when a hardship or punishment reaches us, we immediately ask: “Why me? What have I done to deserve this?” Yet we may forget the sins we committed yesterday, last month, or years ago—sins that we have barely thought about, let alone repented from. This is a reminder to look within ourselves before complaining about what befalls us. A believer does not become careless about his sins, but hastens to repent, seek Allah’s forgiveness, and humble himself before his Lord. Do not only ask, “Why am I being tested?” Ask yourself, “What do I need to repent from?” May Allah forgive our hidden and apparent sins, accept our repentance, and make every hardship a means of purification and return to Him.
