You Say You Trust Allah, But What Are You Really Relying On?

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Final success belongs to the righteous, and there is no transgression except against the wrongdoers. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rah’matullahi Wa Barakaatuh! A Note Before You Read: In the last article, you saw how du’a and fear expose your reality. Now we complete the balance. Because fear alone is not enough. A believer does not live on fear alone. He lives between fear and hope. And he moves through life with reliance. Today, two acts: Raja (hope). Tawakkul (reliance). First: Raja (Hope) Hope is worship. Not wishful thinking. Not empty words. It is expected of Allah what He promised, while acting for it. Allah says: Qur’an 18:110  “Whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him do righteous deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord.”  (Surah Al-Kahf) And: Qur’an 39:53  “Do not despair of the mercy of Allah…”  (Surah Az-Zumar) This opens the door. No matter what you have done. Return. What Hope Really Means Hope is tied to action. You obey, then you hope. You repent, then you expect acceptance. Without action, there is no hope. It is self-deception. What Hope Reveals Hope shows how you see Allah. Do you believe He forgives? Do you believe He accepts? Or do you quietly think your sins are too much? A person with correct hope does not stop. Even after falling. He returns. Again. And again. Because he knows who his Lord is. Where People Slip Two directions. Some lose hope. They sin, then say: “There is no point.” So they stop. Others go the opposite way. They lean on hope without change. They say: “Allah is Merciful.” But they continue as they are. Both are mistakes. Real hope sits in the middle. How Hope Connects to the Three Principles Knowing your Lord: You know His mercy is real. Knowing your religion: You know how to return correctly. Knowing your Prophet ﷺ: You follow how he hoped, even in hardship. So your hope becomes grounded. Not imagined. Second: Tawakkul (Reliance) Tawakkul is strength. Not passiveness. Allah says: Qur’an 5:23  “And upon Allah rely, if you are believers.”  (Surah Al-Maeda) And: Qur’an 65:3  “Whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him…”  (Surah At-Talaq) That is enough. If it is true. People failed. Allah never fail. What Tawakkul Means You take the means. You act. You plan. But your heart does not attach to the means. It attaches to Allah. So you work. But you trust Him for the result. What Tawakkul Reveals It shows what your heart depends on. Not what you say. When things become uncertain: Where does your heart settle? Money? People? Your own ability? Or Allah? The Balance Many Miss Some say: “I trust Allah.” But they do nothing. This is not Tawakkul. Others rely only on effort. They plan everything. Control everything. But forget Allah. This is also broken. Real Tawakkul is both: Action with the limbs. Reliance on the heart. Where People Slip They attach themselves to the means. So when the means fail, they collapse. Why? Because their trust was never in Allah. It was in what they could see. How Tawakkul Connects to the Three Principles Knowing your Lord: You know, He controls outcomes. Knowing your religion: You act within what He allowed. Knowing your Prophet ﷺ: You follow his example, taking means while trusting Allah. So your reliance becomes steady. Not shaken by results. A Quiet Reality Du’a and fear showed your direction. Hope keeps you moving. Reliance keeps you steady. Without hope, you stop. Without reliance, you break. Pause and Reflect: Ask yourself: When I sin, do I return with hope? Or do I give up? When I act, what do I depend on? My effort? Or Allah? Because this is not a theory. It shapes how you live. What Comes Next The structure is now clear: Du’a. Fear. Hope. Reliance. All of it returns to one thing: Tawheed . In the next article, In Shaa Allah, we continue with: Love (Mahabbah). The act that ties everything together.
