You Say You Love Allah… But What Do You Choose When It Costs You?

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Final success belongs to the righteous, and there is no transgression except against the wrongdoers. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rah’matullahi Wa Barakaatuh! A Note Before You Read: You have now seen the structure: Du’a. Fear. Hope. Reliance. Each one exposed something. Now comes what binds all of them. Without it, worship becomes heavy. With it, everything becomes alive. Mahabbah (Love). What Is Mahabbah? Love is not an emotion alone.  It is worship.  It is the root behind every action. Allah says: Qur’an 2:165 “But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah…” (Surah Al-Baqara) Not equal love. Stronger. Above everything. What Love Really Means Love is not what you say. It is what you prefer. When two things compete: What wins? That is what you love. So the question is not: Do you love Allah? The question is: What do you choose when it costs you? What Love Produces Real love creates movement. You obey.  You follow.  You sacrifice. Allah says: Qur’an 3:31 “Say, if you love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you…” (Surah Aal-e-Imran) So love is proven by following the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Not by claims. By submission. The Test of Love A command reaches you. It goes against your desire. Or your environment. Allah says in the Qur’an 4:65: “But no, by your Lord, they do not truly believe until they make you judge in what they dispute, then find no discomfort in themselves from what you have decided and submit completely.” (Surah An-Nisa) At that moment: Do you adjust the command? Or adjust yourself? That is where love is exposed. Where Many Go Wrong They say: “We love Allah.” But their actions follow:  Desire.  Society.  Comfort. So love becomes a statement. Not a reality. Others love Allah, but they share that love. They place something equal:  A person.  A system.  A desire. This breaks Tawheed. Because the heart was divided. Types of Love There is natural love. For family.  For wealth.  For comfort. This is allowed. But it must stay under one rule: It never competes with Allah. If it does, it controls you. And whatever controls you, you begin to obey. What Love Reveals Love shows: Who do you obey?  Who do you prioritize?  Who do you sacrifice for? You may control your words. But you cannot hide your love. It appears in decisions. How Love Connects to the Three Principles Knowing your Lord: You love Him because you know who He is. His mercy.  His power.  His blessings. Knowing your religion: You know what He loves and what He hates. So you align with it. Knowing your Prophet ﷺ: You follow him because he showed you how to love Allah correctly. So love becomes guided. Not emotional. A Quiet Reality Fear stops you. Hope brings you back. Reliance steadies you. But love? Love decides direction. Without it: You resist obedience. With it: You move toward it. --- Pause and Reflect: Ask yourself: When I choose, what do I choose for? Do I love Allah more than what I want? If something I love conflicts with obedience, what happens? Because this is not hidden. It shows every day. What Comes Next Now that you know these structures: Du’a.  Fear.  Hope.  Reliance.  Love. All of it returns to one thing: Tawheed. In the next article, In Shaa Allah, we will explain humility and repentance, how they are also acts of worship, with their evidence, and how to apply them.
