What You Believe About Qadr and the Last Day Is Deciding Your Hereafter
All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Final success belongs to the righteous, and there is no transgression except against the wrongdoers. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rah’matullahi Wa Barakaat'u! A Note Before You Read : In the last article, we covered belief in the Books and the Messengers, and what that belief requires. Now we will complete the structure of Iman. Two pillars remain. Both are unseen. Both are where many struggle. The Fifth Pillar: Belief in the Last Day This is not just a belief that a Day will come, it is a belief in everything that happens after death. From the moment the soul leaves the body. Allah says in the Qur’an 3:185: “Every soul will taste death…” (Surah Aal-e-Imran) Then what follows: The grave. It's a question. It's a reward or punishment. Then resurrection. Qur’an 23:15–16 “Then indeed, after that you will surely die. Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.” (Surah Al-Mu’minun) Then, standing before Allah. No barriers. No intermediaries. Qur’an 18:48 “And they will be presented before your Lord in rows…” (Surah Al-Kahf) Then the حساب (account). Every word. Every action. Recorded. Qur’an 99:7–8 “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” (Surah Az-Zalzalah) Then the scale. Then the bridge. Then the final destination. Jannah or Hell. What does belief require? It changes how you live. A person who truly believes in the Last Day does not see actions as temporary. Nothing is lost. Every صلاة matters. Every word matters. When no one sees you, this pillar remains. It holds you, because you know you will stand all alone before Allah. The Sixth Pillar: Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar) This is where many become confused. Allah knows everything before it happens. Qur’an 54:49 “Indeed, all things We created with decree.” (Surah Al-Qamar) And: Qur’an 57:22 “No disaster strikes upon the earth or within yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being…” (Surah Al-Hadid) Belief in Qadr includes four matters: That Allah knows everything. He wrote everything. That nothing happens except by His will. And That He created everything. Good and bad. Ease and hardship. What does belief require? It builds two things: Trust and patience. When something good happens, you do not become arrogant; you know it is from Allah. When something difficult happens, you do not collapse; you know it was written. Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Know that if the Ummah gathered to benefit you, they would not benefit you except with what Allah has written for you…” (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2516, Hasan Sahih) This does not remove action. You still act, you still choose. But your heart is settled. Not broken by what you missed. Not deceived by what you gained. What This Completes Now the structure is clear. Belief in Allah. Belief in the angels. Belief in the Books. Belief in the Messengers. Belief in the Last Day. Belief in Divine Decree. This is Iman. Not words. A foundation that everything you do stands on. Pause and Reflect: You believe in the Last Day. Are you preparing for it? You believe everything is written. Do you trust Allah when things do not go your way? Because Iman is not practice at ease. It is tested when you are pushed. When you lose. When you are alone. What Comes Next Islam is what is seen. Iman is what is believed. There is one level above both. The Prophet ﷺ was asked about it next. Al-Ihsan. “To worship Allah as though you see Him…” (Sahih Muslim 8) This is where actions change. Not in form. In depth. In the next article, In Shaa Allah, we step into that level. Not as a theory, but as the standard that turns actions into something accepted.
