Many Forget This Can Nullify There Shahadah

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah . Final success belongs to the righteous, and there is no transgression except against the wrongdoers. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rah'matullahi Wa Barakaat'u! We have spent time examining the meaning, conditions, and heart requirements of “ Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah” . We learned that it demands knowledge, certainty, acceptance, submission, sincerity, truthfulness, love, and rejection of everything worshipped besides Allah.  Yet the Shahadah is not complete with the first part alone. The Prophet ﷺ said in the Hadith of Jubril: “Islam is to bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…” Many pronounce these words easily, but few pause to ask: What does “Muhammadur Rasulullah” truly require of us? The Meaning (according to Shari'a) of “ Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” This testimony has two inseparable sides: Affirmation : We believe with certainty that Muhammad ibn ʿAbdillah ﷺ is the final Messenger sent by Allah to all mankind and jinn.  Obedience : We accept that everything he brought from Allah is true, and we must follow it completely. Allah says: “Whoever follows the Messenger has followed Allah.” (Qur’an 4:80) And: “Say (oh Messenger), if you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins.” (Qur’an 3:31) The Prophet ﷺ said: “None of you truly believes until his desires follow what I have brought.” (Shaykh al-Albani in Sahih al-Jamiʿ 6377) This means we do not pick and choose. We do not say “This Sunnah is nice, but that one is difficult.” We do not prefer culture, opinion, or desire over his guidance. The Conditions Apply to the Second Part Too Every condition we studied for “Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah” applies here as well: Knowledge: We must know who the Prophet ﷺ is, what he taught, and what following him means. Certainty: No doubt about his messengership or the preservation of his message. Acceptance: The heart welcomes his commands without resentment. Submission: We obey outwardly, even when it goes against our habits. Sincerity: We follow him for Allah, not for praise or identity. Truthfulness: We do not claim to follow him while hiding disobedience. Love: We love him more than anyone else, and love what he loves. Rejection: We reject every path that claims guidance without him. If any of these is missing in our relationship with the Messenger ﷺ, the second half of our Shahadah is weakened.  Many love the Prophet ﷺ in words, celebrate his birth (which is against His teaching), send salah upon him (opposing the salah He recommended), yet abandon parts of his Sunnah in daily life or even change it totally; others defend culture or personal opinion over his clear guidance.  The companions understood this deeply. When a command came, they said, “We hear, and we obey, even if it was hard. Pause and reflect.   Do we truly follow the Messenger ﷺ in everything he brought? Or do we sometimes place our desires, family customs, or modern ideas above his Sunnah?  The Shahadah is one sentence, but two complete testimonies. We cannot have tawhid without following the one who taught us tawhid.  In our next articles, In Shaa Allah, we will begin examining the major acts that can nullify the Shahadah, the nawaqidu-Islam (nullifiers of Islam).  Many of them are connected directly to how we treat the message and the Messenger ﷺ.  Understanding them is the way to protect what we have built so far.  If you have any feedback, send us an email: support@nurquest.com
