Authentic Signs of Laylatul Qadr The strongest signs are reported in authentic hadith. They are observed after the night passes, not before it begins, so they are not tools for prediction but confirmation. Among the authentic reports: Abdullah bin Mas’ud that The Prophet ﷺ said that the morning after Laylatul Qadr: “On that day, the sun rises like a metal dish, with no rays.” (Sahih Muslim 762) Meaning explained by scholars: The sunrise appears calm Its rays are not sharp or piercing Its light is soft at rising Other reported indicators in authentic narrations include: A night of calmness and tranquility Neither very hot nor very cold A sense of spiritual peace felt by the believer Important discipline: These signs confirm, not forecast. Worship is done before knowing, not after seeing. Now that we've understood Zakaatul-fitri and most of the important things around it, what's next? Zakatul Fitr and Its Link to Ramadan Zakatul Fitr: It means (breaking): It is attached to breaking the fast and completing the month of Ramadan with the charity that concludes the month of Ramadan, because of this Hadith According to Ibn Umar, Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said that everyone who is a Muslim, whether they are a freeman or a slave, should pay Zakat-ul-Fitr (on breaking the fast) by giving one sa' of dried dates or one sa' of barley. (Sahih Muslim 984) From this wording, scholars state: Zakatul Fitr is legislated as part of Ramadan completion and its closing acts. Linguistic meaning: “Zakat” means purification and growth “Fitr” refers to breaking the fast. Meaning: a purification charity tied to the breaking of Ramadan fasting. Legal Ruling of Zakatul Fitr It's an obligation upon every Muslim, young or old, male or female, free Muslim or slave, according to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: Narrated Ibn `Umar: All Muslims, whether free or enslaved, male or female, were obligated by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to pay one Sa' of barley or dates as Zakat-ul-Fitr. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1504, Muslim 984….) It is due on: Adult and child Male and female Free person and slave, in classical rulings Paid by the head of household on behalf of dependents Evidence comes from the Hadith. Time of Zakatul Fitr: Obligation time begins At sunset of the last day of Ramadan, whoever is alive at that time owes it. Permissible payment window: Two valid periods are reported from the Salaf practice according to the Prophet ﷺ’s order. At sunset of the last day of Ramadan Up to before the Eid prayer Abdullah b 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered the payment of Sadaqat-ul-Fitr before people go out for (Eid) prayer. (Sahih Muslim 986) This shows that the early time is the last night of Ramadan, and the latest is the morning of 1st Shawal, before people perform Eid Salah. Another Hadith was narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas: The sadaqah (alms) associated with breaking the fast was prescribed by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as a way to purify the fasting from meaningless and disrespectful speech, and as a provision for the needy. If someone pays it before the prayer (of 'Id), it will be accepted as zakat. Like other sadaqahs (alms), it will be considered a sadaqah if someone pays it after the prayer. (Sunan Abi Dawud 1609. Graded Hasan by Al-Albani. What Is Given In the hadith of Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه: One sa‘ of staple food was given, such as: Dates Barley Staple grain of the land A sa‘ is a measured prophetic volume, roughly equivalent to several kilograms depending on food type. The core principle is staple food, not luxury items. Wisdom Behind Its Legislation An authentic report from Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه states that Zakatul Fitr was obligated: (Abu Dawud 1609) stated earlier. As purification for the fasting person from idle talk and mistakes As a provision for the poor on Eid day to make them happy like other rich people. Key wisdoms: It repairs fasting defects: Fasting contains small errors in speech and behavior. This charity acts as a purifier. It completes the Ramadan structure: Ramadan ends with charity, not self-focus. It brings Eid joy to the poor, so they do not need to beg on the day of celebration. It trains social responsibility: Worship is not isolated from community welfare. Pause and reflect: Laylatul Qadr teaches you to strive in hidden nights.
